Elderly man dies in Providence accident
Police are investigating the death of 86-year-old Neville Williams, who was killed in an accident on the Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Monday night.
Police Headquarters in a statement noted that a 52-year-old male driver of the car, PYY 114, is in police custody.
It is alleged by the driver that he was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane of the carriageway at around 21:30hrs when Williams walked across the road and into the path of the car.
Williams, who resided at New Scheme, Herstelling EBD, was picked up in a conscious condition by the said driver, placed into the car and transported to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was pronounced dead.
His body is at the GPHC mortuary awaiting an autopsy. The driver tested negative for alcohol in his system.
