Farmer’s finger chopped off during cutlass attack at Crabwood Creek

Police are investigating an alleged wounding committed on Surendranauth Sookdeo, called ‘Tambraine’,  a 31-year-old farmer of  Crabwood Creek,  Corentyne, Berbice.

The incident occurred on Easter Monday (April 5) 5 at about 21:37 hrs on a road in Backland, Crabwood Creek.

Investigators were told that the suspect, a 22-year-old labourer, approached Sookdeo, who was standing on the road and dealt him several chops about his body causing him to receive injuries.

Sookdeo was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was treated by a doctor on duty who later transferred him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

“The area was canvassed for anything of evidential value, and a finger that was severed from the victim’s hand was found.  CCTV cameras were seen and the footage reviewed. Checks were made for the suspect but he is yet to be apprehended,” Police Headquarters noted in a statement.

The victim’s condition is listed as serious but stable. Investigations are ongoing.
