The Civil Defense Commission (CDC) has issued a flood warning after reports from the Hydromet Office indicate that continuous moderate to heavy rain showers are expected from Friday to Sunday (April 9-11) across Guyana.

Guyana should expect periodic high intensity rainfall events over coastal areas within the early morning hours, with rainfall anticipated between 60.0 mm to 100.0 mm within a 24-hour period and the highest rainfall values expected over coastal areas on Saturday and Sunday.

The CDC said above normal high tides, which will likely lead to flooding in low lying, poorly drained, and riverine areas are forecast.

There is also the possibility of landslides in hilly areas and as such, residents are advised to take all necessary precautions.

In addition, drivers and road users are also advised to exercise caution on roadways as visibility can be significantly reduced in periods of heavy showers, and roads will become slippery.
