Woman, 41, dies from COVID-19

A 41-year-old woman from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) died from COVID-19 on Saturday, taking the country’s death toll to 253. The Ministry of Health in a statement reported that the woman died while receiving care at a medical facility.

The latest fatality also represent the 20th COVID-19 death for the month thus far.

Guyana is now facing a third, more deadly wave of the dreaded coronavirus, which is rapidly spreading across the country and attacking the younger population.

The Ministry is also appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the deceased and her family and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.16), which are in effect until April 30, 2021. This order emphasises:

 the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;

 the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;

 and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
