Hours after the Ministry of Health reported the death of two persons from COVID-19 on Monday, a third death was reported. The latest fatality takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 258.

The latest fatality is a 64-year-old male from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) who died while receiving care at a medical facility on Monday.

Earlier, the deaths of a 64-year-old man in Region Four and a 60-year-old woman from Region Three were also reported.

They were both hospitalised for a period and died on Sunday, April 11.

Three persons also died on Saturday. This means that for the month of April thus far, 25 persons have died as the country is facing a third, more deadly wave of the dreaded coronavirus, which is rapidly spreading across the country and attacking the younger population.

The Ministry of Health expressed condolences to the families of those who died and said it will make every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time to render any assistance needed.

The Ministry is appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the two deceased and their families and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.16), which are in effect until April 30, 2021. This order emphasises:

    • The need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home
    • The importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others
    • And the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.

If anyone is displaying any of the symptoms associated with COVID-19, or need any additional information, kindly contact the COVID-19 Hotline 231-1166, 226-7480 or 624-6674 IMMEDIATELY or visit www.health.gov.gy.
