Superintendents of Police, Loraine Saul and Kurt Smith on Monday appeared before the Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan, in connection with a multimillion-dollar fraud committed in the Police Finance Department.

The duo denied that between December 18-28, 2020 they conspired with each other and others, while being officers of the Guyana Police Force, to falsify a payment account to sum $1,350,000 to show that meals were supplied to ranks of riot unit training during December.

The two senior officers also denied that during the same period, they conspired with each other and other persons, to falsify a payment account to the sum $465,000 to show that meals were supplied to ranks of riot unit training.

The duo was released on $200,000 each and the matter was adjourned until May 14.

Recently, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kevin Adonis, along with three other ranks of the GPF were charged for similar crimes.

Adonis, Sergeants Michael Corbin and Jermaine Fraser along with Corporal Rawl Haynes are currently out on $150,000 bail for stealing over $19M from the GPF.

In 2020, the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) launched an investigation against the police finance department following a report of missing monies.
