88 new COVID-19 infections, 15 persons in ICU

Guyana continues to record an upsurge in COVID-19 infections with 88 new positive cases recorded on Tuesday from 1, 517 tests, taking the overall number of confirmed cases to 11, 277.
Region Four accounted for the majority of new cases with 47. This was followed by Region Three with 16 new cases and Region Five with 10 new cases. Regions Two and Ten recorded one new case each while Region Six recorded five new cases.
Meanwhile, Region Seven recorded six new cases and Region Nine recorded two new cases.
There are now 15 patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, 77 patients are in institutional isolation and 1, 131 patients are in home isolation.
To date, 9, 796 persons have recovered and 258 have died.
