Britton, Alleyne come up short in Argentina

National Table Tennis player Shemar Britton and Joel Alleyne were on the losing end on Tuesday as Men’s Singles action commenced in the Latin American Singles and Mixed Doubles, which serves as a qualification event for the Tokyo Olympics.

Competing in Rosario, Argentina, Britton lost 4-2 to Alejandro Toranzos of Paraguay and Alleyne succumbed 4-0 to Gustavo Gomez in the Round of 32.

Britton won the second and fourth sets 11-8, 11-8, while Toranzos win the others 11-5, 11-2, 11-3, 11-3.

Gomez meanwhile, was dominant against Alleyne, winning 11-6, 11-5, 11-8, 11-2.

Later on Tuesday, the other members of the Guyana’s contingent- Chelsea Edghill and Natalie Cummings- were due to be in action. Idi Lewis is Guyana’s coach for the April 13-17 event.
