The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) will on April 23, 2021, launch the Dave Narine Educational Trust Fund for 15 young cricketers across Guyana.

Under this initiative, each county will submit the names of five Under-17 cricketers who will each benefit from a G$20,000 grant. Two of the important criteria to qualify for the grant will be discipline and school attendance.

“The current executives of the GCB are cognisant of the constraints related to the COVID-19 situation, in particular the present rise in recorded cases, and the financial impact on families. The GCB will continue to monitor the situation to establish a time frame base on professional advice in which GCB competitions can recommence,” the GCB said in a press statement.

The GCB added that the Cricket Development Committee will continue to focus on the requisite programmes that are geared at on-field and off-field developmental activities.

“The Guyana Cricket Board wishes to express immense gratitude to Mr. Dave Narine, proprietor of Dave’s West Indian Imports and Exports, for his continued support of the development of youth cricket. Mr. Narine has expressed his intention to once again donate a large quantity of exercise books for distribution to youth cricketers and also to renew his sponsorship of the Under-15 Inter-county Tournament,” the GCB statement read.

Each county will be asked by the GCB to make a submission of their selected five players who will benefit from this initiative by Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
