Mattai’s owner stabbed during failed robbery attempt
Businessman and owner of Mattai’s supermarket, Harry Mattai, was on Saturday night stabbed shortly after arriving at his Bel Air Park, Georgetown residence by armed bandits who attempted to rob him.
According to a police report, Mattai and his family had just returned home in his motorcar and as he attempted to open his gate, while his daughter and wife remained in the vehicle, the suspects approached him on two bicycles.
One of the men pointed a knife at him and said “hand over what u get”, Police Headquarters noted in the report. When he told them that he didn’t have anything, they proceeded to search him and a scuffle ensued.
The suspect, who was armed, dealt Mattai a stab to his lower back; the duo then made good their escape on the bicycles.
Mattai was rushed to a private hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who treated and sent him away.
Police said checks were made for the suspects but they were not located. Investigations are ongoing.
