Police in Region One (Barima-Waini) are investigating alleged simple larceny committed on Orin Fernandes, a 29-year-old Toshao of Chinese Landing Village.
The alleged robbery occurred sometime between 18:00hrs on Sunday and 05:00 hrs on Monday at Chinese Landing, North West District. The Toshao reportedly lost a (200 HP) Yamaha outboard engine and boat valued at $4.5 million, Police Headquarters noted in a statement.
According to the police, on Sunday, the victim secured his boat by means of rope at the back of his home about 100 feet away in a creek, as per the norm. On Monday, at about 05:00 hrs, the victim made checks and observed his boat and engine missing.
The victim then made several checks in and around Chinese Landing where he received certain information from persons in the area as to the name of the suspect who reportedly cut the rope and was seen heading towards the Waini river with the boat.
The victim then made a report via cellular phone to Acquero Police Station. Police are looking for the suspect, as well as the boat and engine. The investigation is ongoing.
