Berbice man in custody after beating wife, threatening to kill her

A 27-year-old man from Corentyne, Berbice is in custody pending police investigations after he allegedly hit his 27-year-old wife and threatened to kill her on April 19.

Police Headquarters in a statement said the man was consuming alcohol at his home with his brother on April 19 when he questioned his wife about another man. Reports indicate that the wife remained silent, but the man subsequently grabbed her by her hair and dealt severe blows to her head. He then, allegedly, injured her by pushing his finger in her eye and threatened to kill her.

It was noted that the woman sought medical attention at a health centre the following day and after being questioned by a nurse, the matter was reported.  Officers went to the home of the suspect and arrested him.

Further enquiries also revealed that about a month ago, the suspect wounded the woman after he dealt a chop on her hand. The probe into the matter continues.
