Ramdhani siblings to compete in Olympic and SA Youth Games qualifiers
Student/athletes Narayan Ramdhani and Priyanna Ramdhani are faced with a busy schedule over the next two weeks as they embark on the Tokyo Olympic Qualifiers and the Cali South American Youth Games Qualifiers.
The siblings, who are Guyana’s top players in their respective categories, are currently on scholarship at King’s University and Olds College respectively in Canada.
They will both attended the XXIV Pan Am Individual Championship in Guatemala from April 27 to May 2, the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) said in a press statement on Wednesday.
“Narayan will be playing to get the necessary qualifications points to attend the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games and at the Pan Am Championships he will play in the Singles Elimination Round of 64 where he was awarded a bye and got into the Round of 32,” the GBA stated.
“Priyanna will be playing to get her qualification points to attend the Cali South American Youth Games, and at the Pan Am Championships she will play in the Singles Elimination Round of 32. They both will also team up in the Mixed Doubles in the Draw of 32.”
Due to the pandemic, the pair had been out of competitive action for the last year, and the GBA is hoping they can secure valuable qualification points in the upcoming tournaments.
“Because of the pandemic they were exposed to limited training as some venues were restricted and had to be worked around when they could get on court. This sometimes means they had to travel for two hours, train for two hours and travel back for two hours twice a week,” the GBA stated.
The GBA expressed thanks to Sport Minister Charles Ramson Jr. Guyana Olympic Association President K.A. Juman Yassin, Dr. Yesu Persaud of Demerara Bank, Mohamed’s Enterprise and GBA executive Ayanna Watson for making it possible for the two players to attend the events.
