Guyana records highest daily COVID-19 tally

Guyana on Friday recorded 214 new COVID-19 cases from 1,424 tests, taking the country’s overall number of confirmed cases to 12,448.

The new cases are the country’s highest tally since the pandemic hit these shores in March 2020. The majority of new infections were recorded in Region Four with 95 new cases with Region Three coming in second with 41 new cases.

New infections were also recorded in the following Regions: Region Ten – 18 new cases; Region Nine – 19 new cases;   Region Six – 11 new cases; Region One – two new cases; Region Five – two new cases; Region Two – 12 new cases; Region Seven – 12 new cases and Region Eight – two new cases.

To date, 10,619 persons have recovered. The total number of deaths stands at 277.

There are 1,466 patients in home isolation, 70 patients in institutional isolation and 16 patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital.
