Guyana’s death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rapidly climb in the month of April.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Health reported the deaths of two more persons, taking the death toll from the pandemic since Guyana recorded its first case and death in March 2020 to 281.

The latest fatalities are two men, a 72-year-old and a 42-year-old, both from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica). They both died on Saturday while receiving care at a medical facility.

Two women also died less than 24 hours ago. The latest deaths also mean that April is the deadliest month, taking the toll to 48.

Previously, October 2020 was the deadliest month for Guyana since the pandemic started in March 2020. On Thursday, April 22, Guyana equalled October’s total of 44 deaths.

Additionally, on Thursday, Guyana also surpassed 12,000 cases of COVID-19 in Guyana, also recorded since March 2020.
