Two more COVID-19 deaths; April’s toll now at 50

Guyana’s death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rapidly climb in the month of April as the country recorded two more deaths on Sunday.

The deaths reported by the Ministry of Health takes the mortality toll from the pandemic since Guyana recorded its first case and death in March 2020 to 283.

The latest fatalities are two men, a 80-year-old from Region 4 (Demerara- Mahaica) and a 51-year- old from Region 3 (Essequibo Islands- West Demerara) who both died while receiving care at a medical facility on Saturday, April 24. The latest deaths take the death toll for the month of April to 50.

Previously, October 2020 was the deadliest month for Guyana since the pandemic started in March 2020 with 44 deaths.

Guyana is experiencing a more deadly wave of the virus, the Ministry of Health had previously noted.
