Teen pedal cyclist hospitalized after hit and run

A 14-year-old pedal cyclist is now hospitalized in a serious condition after being struck by a motor car on the Parfaite Harmonie Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).

The hit and run accident, according to a police report, occurred on Sunday evening at around 18:50 hrs.

Reports are that the driver of the car, PZZ 2676, was one Joshua Manbodh of St. Stephen’s Street, Charlestown, Georgetown. He was said to proceeding south on the road when he struck the teen.

The teen received injuries about his body.

The driver reportedly drove away and parked the said vehicle some distance away in the back of a yard in Parfaite Harmonie and then fled the area.

The teen, of Recht-Door-Zee, West Bank Demerara was picked up in a conscious state by public-spirited persons and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was admitted.

According to the police report, the teen sustained a fractured left arm, head injuries, laceration to his right side shoulder and bruises about his body as a result of the impact.

He was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remains a patient in the accident unit.

Meanwhile, the vehicle involved in the accident was lodged to be examined by a licence and certifying officer.

Investigations are continuing.
