Two more COVID deaths, April’s toll now 53

Guyana’s COVID-19 death increased to 286 with two deaths recorded on Sunday, April 25, 2021.

The latest fatalities are a 79-year-old male from Region 3 (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) and a 70-year-old female from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice). They both died while receiving care at a medical facility.

The death toll for April is now 53, making it the deadliest month since the first COVID-19 case, and death was recorded in Guyana in March 2020.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.16), which are in effect until April 30, 2021. This order emphasises:

  the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;

  the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;

  and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
