COVID-19: April death toll now at 60; 137 new cases

Guyana’s overall COVID-19 death toll hiked to 293 as the Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced two more deaths.

The Health Ministry reported that the latest fatalities are two males, a 73-year-old from Region 4 (Demerara-Mahaica) and a 64-year-old from Region 5 (Mahaica-Berbice).

They both died while receiving care at a medical facility on April 27. April’s death toll now stands at 60.

Meanwhile, 137 new infections were recorded from 1,576 tests, taking the country’s overall number of confirmed cases to 12,963.

The majority of new infections were recorded in Region Four with 66 new cases, followed by Region Three with 29 new cases. The other new cases recorded are as follows: Region One – three new cases; Region Two – 12 new cases, Region Five – two new cases; Region Six – 18 new cases and Region Seven – four new cases.

The other regions recorded no new cases.   To date, 11,070 persons have recovered.

There are 1,505 patients in home isolation, 82 patients are in institutional isolation and 13 patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Infectious Diseases Hospital.
