GDF rank dies after crashing into pedestrian, car

A Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank died on Tuesday after crashing into a pedestrian and a car on the Liliendaal Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.

Dead is Lancelot Giddings, 26, who was riding a motorcycle at the time of the accident.

According to a police report, Giddings, of Prince William Street, Plaisance was proceeding west along the Liliendaal Railway Embankment when pedestrian Sheldon Booker, 45, attempted to cross the road.

Police said Booker walked into the path of Giddings’ motorcycle, which resulted in the rank losing control and crashing into motorcar, # PMM 309 in the opposite direction.

Both men fell on the roadway and sustained multiple injuries.

They were picked up in unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Giddings was pronounced dead.

Booker, on the other hand, was admitted in a critical condition.

A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the motorcar but no trace of alcohol was found.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the accident as investigations are ongoing.
