The operations of three bars in Georgetown and on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) were suspended for one month after officers from the National COVID-19 Task Force (NCTF) found that they were operating in breach of the gazetted COVID-19 guidelines last weekend.

The bars whose operations have been suspended for one month are: T&S Restaurant, Bar and Catering, in Georgetown; the Cigars and Cognac Eco Bar and Lounge, at Melanie on the ECD; and, the Chicken King Grill and Bar, at Melanie, ECD.

These three bars join the list of bars and resorts whose operations have been suspended by the Task Force over the past few weeks.

On Wednesday, during a press conference held at State House, President Dr Irfaan Ali highlighted that he has asked Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, to discuss other ways of enforcing the guidelines.

One such way of strengthening enforcement, according to the President, could be to charge the owners and managers of errant businesses instead of arresting and charging patrons.

The President also said that there would be “more boots on the ground” as ranks from the armed forces attempt to enforce the guidelines and dissuade errant actions.
