Ganpat wins Massy golf tournament on countback from Guyadin

Lusignan resident Naro Ganpat on Saturday emerged top of a large field of golfers to win the Massy Motors sponsored Medal Play tournament at the Lusignan Golf Course, East Coast Demerara.

A total of 44 golfers participated in the 18-hole tournament and when they ended with the sun setting in the distance, it was Ganpat and the experienced Guyadin, who were locked on the same Net score of 67.

On the countback, Ganpat, playing off a handicap of nine, was adjudged the winner, with Guyadin claiming second, playing off an 11 handicap. Ganpat recorded a Gross of 76 and Guyadin 78.

Naresh Sarwan, playing off a handicap of 16, finished third with Net 68 and Gross 84.

The prizes for the Best Net score on the front nine and the back nine went to Anand Persaud (28) and Ganpat (32) respectively.

At the presentation ceremony, Massy Motors was represented by Director Laknaraine Shivraj, Samantha Fernandes and Lindon Williams.

Shivraj, in congratulating the top performers, lauded the players for turning out in their numbers. He noted that the company is pleased to support the development of golf.

President of the Lusignan Golf Club, Patanjilee Persaud, expressed gratitude to Massy Motors for its involvement in activities of the Club.

He reiterated that the Club is keen on promoting the game in an environment that lends itself to compliance to the National COVID-19 measures.

Persaud urged members to continue to guard against the virus, and commended them for being in conformity with the preventative measures during the competition.

Another tournament is billed for next weekend.
