Guyana nears 300 COVID deaths as two more women die

Two more persons who tested positive for COVID-19 succumbed to the dreaded disease, taking Guyana’s overall death toll to 298 since the pandemic hit in March 2020.

The latest fatalities are two females, a 71-year-old from Region 8 (Potaro-Siparuni) and a 73-year- old from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).

They both died while receiving care at a medical facility on April 30. The latest deaths take April’s death toll to 65.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO.16), which are in effect until April 30, 2021. This order emphasises:

  • the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving your home;
  • the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;
  • and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
