46 new COVID-19 cases; 15 in ICU

Guyana on Monday recorded a total of 46 new COVID-19 cases from 834 tests, taking the country’s overall number of confirmed cases to 13,564.

The majority of new infections were recorded in Region Four with 18 new cases, followed by Region Seven with 15 new cases. Regions One and Five recorded two new cases each, while Region Two recorded five new cases and Region Three recorded three new cases.

The other region that recorded new cases was Region Ten with one new case; Regions Six, Eight and Nine reported no new infections.  To date, 11,447 persons have recovered.

Guyana’s total number of deaths is now at 303 since the pandemic hit these shores in March 2020. Earlier on Monday, the Ministry announced that four COVID deaths were recorded on Sunday, which took the overall total deaths for May to five.

There are 1,701 patients in home isolation, 98 patients are in institutional isolation and 15 patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit and nine are in institutional quarantine.
