Four COVID deaths in one day; country total now 303

The Ministry of Health has announced that there were two more COVID-19 deaths recorded on Sunday, which means that a total of four persons died that day.

The latest fatalities are a 72-year-old from Region 4 (Demerara-Mahaica) and a 56-year-old from Region 7 (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). The Health Ministry said that both men died while receiving care at a medical facility.

Earlier on Monday, the Ministry announced that two other deaths were recorded on Sunday. Overall, five COVID-19 deaths have been recorded for the month of May, thus far, taking the country’s overall death toll to 303 since March 2020.

Importantly, with the addition of the deaths reported today, there have now been 103 deaths recorded over the past two months. Between March 11, 2020, to March 4, 2021, Guyana recorded exactly 200 deaths.

In April alone, the deadliest month of the pandemic so far, 65 individuals who were infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the disease COVID-19, lost their lives.
