A total of 92 new COVID-19 infections were recorded in Guyana on Tuesday from 537 tests, taking the country’s overall number of confirmed cases to 13,656.

The majority of new infections were recorded in Region Nine with 37 new cases, followed by Region Four with 26 new cases. Regions Three and Five recorded eight new cases each, while Region Six recorded four new cases and Region Ten recorded seven new cases.

The other region that recorded new cases was Region Seven with two new cases; Regions One, Two and Eight did not report new infections.  To date, 11,596 persons have recovered.

Guyana’s total number of deaths is now at 306 since the pandemic hit these shores in March 2020. Earlier on Tuesday, the Ministry reported that three persons – two males and one female – succumbed to the dreaded disease, taking May’s death toll to six thus far.

There are 1,637 patients in home isolation, 100 patients are in institutional isolation, 17 patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit and six are in institutional quarantine.
