Gonsalves delivers on financial promise to Albion’s U-21 team
Former Guyana batsman Andrew Gonsalves has pumped G$100,000 into the Albion Community Centre Cricket Club (ACCCC), as sponsorship of the Club’s Under-21 Team for the 2021 season.
At a simple ceremony held recently at the Albion Community Centre’s Main Hall, Gonsalves, also a former Albion cricketer and now Owner/Manager of the Cell Towers Builders Inc. in the United States, where he now resides, disclosed to the audience via a live social media appearance that he was extremely happy to give back to his Club.
“I am delighted to give back to my Club. It is always a pleasure for me to assist and I will continue to do so. It is very likely that I will do this annually.”
President of the ACCCC, Vemen Walter, thanked Gonsalves and assured him that his sponsorship of the Club’s Under-21 team will assist tremendously not only towards the development of Albion’s cricket, but also cricket in Berbice, Guyana and by extension the West Indies.
“As we all know, Albion is a major player in Berbice, Guyana and West Indies’ cricket, having known to produce top quality cricketers over the years. As we all are aware cricket is a very expensive game and I must thank Mr. Gonsalves for this sponsorship. It is a clear testimony of his continued commitment toward Albion’s cricket, which he had also demonstrated during cricketing days.”
Also speaking at the ceremony was ACCCC’s Secretary, Omarnauth Outar, who commended Gonsalves for having seen it fitting to invest in the Club.
The Albion Under-21 team for the 2021 season will be known as the “Albion Cell Towers Builders Under-21 team.”
Gonsalves providing assistance to the ACCCC is nothing new since over the years he had made several financial contributions.
Among those present for the launching were Dularie Lachminarine and Henna Rupnarine – the sister and niece respectively of Gonsalves- along with current top Albion cricketers Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul and Gudakesh Motie.
This sponsorship is one of many that the Club has attracted recently.
Just over a month ago, sponsorships for the Club’s senior team, which will participate in the upcoming Speaker’s T20 National Club Cricket Tournament, along with its Under-13, 15, 17 and 19 teams were also secured.
Permaul’s Trading and Distribution and K.P. Jagdeo General Contracting are the sponsors of the Club‘s Team for the Speaker’s T20 National Club Cricket Tournament.
The Club’s Under-19 Team is also sponsored by K.P. Jagdeo General Contracting with Orvin Mangru’s Contracting Services being the Under-17 Team’s sponsor, Permaul’s Trading and Distribution– Under 15 and Under-13 being taken care of by Harichand’s Business Establishment.
The Club’s First Division Team is also partly sponsored; however, it is very likely that this team will have a full sponsor shortly.
