Guyana on Wednesday recorded a total of 173 new COVID-19 cases from 1,216 tests, pushing the country’s overall number of confirmed cases to 13,829.

Region Four recorded the majority of the new cases with 69 followed by Region Six with 37 new cases; Region Three with 23 new cases and Region Nine with 21 new cases.

Regions One and Two recorded one new case each while Region Five recorded two new cases.
Region Seven also recorded 12 new cases while Region Ten recorded seven new cases and Region Eight recorded no new infections.

To date, 11,672 persons have recovered from the dreaded disease.

Guyana’s total number of deaths is now at 308 since the pandemic hit these shores in March 2020 after two Region Three residents succumbed on Tuesday.

Those deaths took May’s death toll to eight thus far.
There are 1,733 patients in home isolation, 100 patients are in institutional isolation, 16 patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit and 10 are in institutional quarantine.
