Police are investigating the discovery of a quantity of marijuana at the Mazaruni Prison in Region Seven.
According to a police report, prison officers at around 17:50 hrs, conducted daily checks in and around the Mazaruni Prison compound when they observed a male prisoner acting in a suspicious manner.
A search was then conducted on his person when officers found a black bulky parcel containing leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis, hidden in his crotch.
The suspected narcotics were weighed in the prisoner’s presence and amounted to 158 grams.
Further, a search was conducted in the Tuck Shop of the prison and two black bulky parcels containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were also discovered.
Those were weighed separately and amounted to 252 grams.
