Speeding truck driver crashes head-on into car on Corentyne road

A truck driver is in police custody and is expected to be charged soon after he crashed head-on into a motorcar on the No. 63 Public Road, Corentyne while attempting to negotiating a turn.
The driver of the car, Keith Griffith, is currently hospitalised in a stable condition at the New Amsterdam Hospital. He suffered lacerations to the face along with other injuries to the body.
Police said that the accident occurred on Tuesday at around 18:10 hrs.  According to the police report, the driver of the motor lorry #GHH 1566 was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane with three occupants at a fast rate of speed.
While negotiating a right bend in the road, the driver lost control of the vehicle and swerved west, colliding head-on with motorcar #PJJ 8191; the car was said to be proceeding north along the western drive lane at a normal rate of speed.
The impact sent the car into a tailspin while the truck slammed into a concrete culvert and then ended up in a trench on the western side of the public road.
The driver of the car was assisted by public-spirited citizens in a semi-conscious condition and taken to Skeldon Public Hospital and then transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital. His injuries prevented him from being subjected to a breathalyzer test, police said.
Meanwhile, a breathalyzer test conducted on the driver of the truck revealed a zero-rating.
