Body of Linden man recovered from Mabura creek

The body of 20-year-old Akeem Davidson was on Friday fished out of a creek at Mabura, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), days after he was reported missing following a swim with his friend.

Davidson, who lived at Retrieve, Linden, worked as a labourer at a camp in Mabura. On Tuesday, he went into the creek with his friend Sheldon Vanaco at approximately 14:15 hours.

The creek is located approximately 300 meters away from their camp.

The friend told Police that sometime later, Davidson went underwater and did not resurface.

According to the friend, he called out to him to “stop playing” but approximately 15 minutes went by and there was no sign of Davidson.

Vanaco w informed the owner of the camp, Ephraim Benn, about what had occurred. The duo reportedly went in search of Davidson but to no avail. Police, who were also summoned to the scene, were unsuccessful in locating him.

However, according to Police, Davidson’s body was retrieved by ranks and residents at approximately 10:30 hours on Friday.
