Suspect found unconscious after robbery at Mon Repos supermarket

A man is now hospitalised, under police guard, after being found in an unconscious state sometime after committing an armed robbery at a supermarket at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

According to reports, the robbery occurred on Wednesday. At the time, the victim, Police Special Constable Crystal Walters and others were at Lee’s Supermarket in Mon Repos.

Police said an anonymous call was subsequently made to the Beterverwagting Police Station informing ranks there that a robbery was executed by three males dressed in black hoodies who escaped on three black bicycles.

Acting on a tip-off, ranks went to a street in the area and discovered the suspect, dressed in a black hoodie, lying in an unconscious state on the road.

A damaged black bicycle was also lying next to him and $21,500 cash was found on his person.

He was arrested and positively identified by Walters as one of the suspects who robbed her and others in the supermarket.

While he had no external injuries, the suspect was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention.

Investigations are ongoing.
