130 new COVID-19 cases; 17 in ICU

COVID-19 cases in Guyana continue to climb rapidly as 130 new infections were recorded on Saturday from 509 tests, taking Guyana’s overall total number of confirmed cases to 14,203.

Region Four stays in the lead with the majority of new infections following 72 new cases followed by Region Ten with 18 new cases. Region Three recorded 14 new cases while Region Six came in with 10 new infections.

Also recording new cases were Regions Five, Seven, and Nine with seven, eight, and one new cases, respectively.

Regions One, Two, and Eight recorded no new infections.

Thus far, 12,072 persons have recovered from the dreaded disease.

Guyana’s total number of deaths also hiked to 323 since the pandemic hit these shores in March 2020 following the death of nine persons between April 25, 2021, and May 6, 2021 The death toll for May now stands at 22.

There are 1,691 patients in home isolation, 100 patients are in institutional isolation and 17 patients are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit.
