A 17-year-old boy is at the Georgetown Public Hospital nursing two gunshot wounds after he was shot during a scuffle with a policeman in the vicinity of Dennis Street and ‘D’ Field Access Road, Sophia, Greater Georgetown on Friday.

Police Headquarters, in a statement, noted that ranks were conducting a raid exercise when they noticed the teenager, who is a “known character” riding a red motorcycle with a haversack on his back.

According to the police report, upon seeing the police vehicle, the teenager “immediately made a U-Turn and sped off in a western direction on Dennis Street.”

A chase ensued and after navigating several cross streets and back roads, the young man eventually abandoned his motorcycle at his house and ran into his yard.

Police alleged that he then scaled his neighbour’s fence with the ranks in pursuit. As ranks closed in to capture him, a scuffle ensued, during which, the teenager held onto the firearm of the cop.

“As the scuffle continued the firearm went off.  Two circular injuries were observed on the character’s body. He was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was seen and examined by doctors on duty and listed as being in a stable condition,” the police report noted.
