A Sunday night altercation among three family members, who were imbibing at the time, has left one dead.

Police say they are investigating the death of 31-year- old Ganga Persaud, also known as Toney, of Fairfield, Essequibo Coast.

According to reports, Toney was drinking with two other family members – the suspect, who Police did not name, and one Muneshwar Persaud.

While drinking, an argument broke out between the suspect and Toney. The suspect reportedly lashed Toney to his head with a rum bottle during the argument but was pushed away by the other relative.

The suspect then exited through the front door and the victim made his way out through the back door.

Police said Muneshwar rushed to the front door and noticed the suspect standing at the side of the house, and shouted, “He (Toney) dead! He dead!”

Muneshwar said he saw Toney in a pool of blood, with the blood coming from a wound to his left underarm.

Muneshwar and a neighbour then rushed the victim to the Suddie Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect ran away from the scene but on Monday morning his mother took him to the Police and he was placed in custody.
