Men, 77 and 59, are latest COVID deaths

Two more persons who tested positive for the dreaded Coronavirus have died, taking the total number of deaths from the pandemic here since March 2020 to 327.

The latest fatalities are two males, a 77-year-old and a 59-year-old from Region 4 (Demerara-Mahaica). They both died while receiving care at a medical facility on Sunday, May 9.

Also on Sunday, the Ministry of Health reported the death of two males, who died on May 8.

This takes the death toll for May thus far to 28, while the death toll in April, which has been Guyana’s deadliest month in the pandemic thus far, is 66.

From March 4, 2021, to now, Guyana has seen a surge in both the number of additional people infected daily and the number of lives lost due to COVID-19. In just two months since March 4, 127 lives have been lost.
