Craig shopkeeper robbed at knifepoint during home invasion

A 52-year-old shopkeeper is counting her losses after she was reportedly held at knifepoint and robbed by two bandits who broke into her house in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Police in a statement said the armed perpetrators woke up the woman at around 01:30 hrs at her Third Street, Craig, East Bank Demerara house and who demanded money.

When she refused, they ransacked the place, relieving her of several articles, before escaping through an open window.

According to the police, the bandits took with them two black 50-inch TCL TV set valued at $500,000; one pair of gold earrings valued at $10,000; one gold ring valued at $27,000 and $5000 in cash.

The bandits gained entry prying open a window on the eastern side and cutting an internal steel grill.

The perpetrators remain at large and investigations are ongoing.
