Herstelling couple tied up, beaten, robbed by bandits
A Herstelling, East Bank Demerara couple is in a traumatised state after they were tied up, beaten and robbed by two bandits, who were armed with guns, on Tuesday night.
According to a police report, the 50-year-old victim – a taxi driver – said he had just secured his shop at the house and was feeding his dogs in the yard at around 20:40hrs when he was attacked by two males, who forced him into his house using the back door.
At the same time, the victim was gun-butted and received lacerations to his head.
Both the victim and his wife were tied with a cloth while the bandits ransacked the house.
They escaped with a Samsung S8 cellular phone valued at $80,000; a Samsung J3 cellular phone valued at $40,000; a Samsung 65-inch smart television; a quantity of gold jewellery estimated value of $500,000 and $US1200 in cash.
Investigations are ongoing.
