Three more people have died from the disease COVID-19, increasing Guyana’s COVID-19 death toll to 341 while the total number of deaths in the month of May alone has risen to 42.

On Saturday, the ministry reported that two women also died on May 14 which means that there are now four reported deaths for that day alone.

According to the Ministry of Health, the three patients, whose deaths were reported on Sunday, were admitted with COVID-19 like symptoms but died while receiving care at the ministry’s medical institutions. They were tested for COVID-19 upon admission and their results, subsequently, showed that they were positive.

Meanwhile, according to the Health Ministry’s daily COVID-19 dashboard, an additional 103 people have been infected with COVID-19 after 969 tests were conducted. An additional 81 individuals have, however, recovered.

Importantly, these new cases mean that 1,988 people have been infected with COVID-19 for the month of May alone; the country has recorded 15,271 cases since the first case was confirmed on March 11, 2020.

The 103 new cases were drawn from: Region Three (13 cases), Region Four (56 cases), Region Five (seven cases), Region Six (three cases), Region Seven (one case), Region Nine (19 cases) and Region 10 (four cases).

There are also 1,971 active cases; 14 of these active cases are patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 110 individuals are in institutional isolation, 1.839 are in home isolation and eight are in institutional quarantine.
