An accident on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, on Sunday between two motorcyclists resulted in the death of a man and another hospitalised.
Dead is 20-year-old Calvin Peters of East Ruimveldt Squatting area, Georgetown, and injured is Shemar Pratt.
Police reported that the accident occurred around 17:00hrs on Sunday. According to a police report, Peters was proceeding south along the eastern side of Mandela Avenue on a motorcycle.
While in the vicinity of the Multilateral Secondary School, he reportedly stopped at the center of the lane; this put him in the path of Pratt, who was proceeding in the southern direction as well.
Police said that Pratt collided with the rear right side of Peters’ motorcycle; both riders fell onto the road and received injures.
They were picked up in semi-conscious states and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where Peters was pronounced dead, while Pratt was treated for head injuries and lacerations about his body; he remains in a stable condition.
Police said that the accident scene was checked for the motorcycles, but none were seen.
Investigations are ongoing.
