Father attempts to kill self, baby girl

A man has told Police that the burden of caring for his children after his wife committed suicide forced him to ingest a poisonous substance and feed some to his baby girl just after midnight Monday.

“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the ingestion of a poisonous substance by a male who also admitted to administering same to his toddler’s tea,” Police headquarters stated.

The man, from the East Coast of Demerara, along with his baby girl, who is two-years-old, were admitted to a medical facility and their condition is listed as stable.

The couple had two other children – aged one and four. The man told Police that he had also intended to feed the other two children the poisonous substance.

The man told Police that after his wife died, he just could not cope with raising the children.
