Region Seven man dies from COVID-19; death toll now 345

A 56-year-old man from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) has died from COVID-19 taking the local death toll to 345, with 46 of those deaths occurring in the month of May alone. 

According to the Ministry, the man was admitted with COVID-19 like symptoms but died while receiving care at a medical institution. He was tested for COVID-19 upon admission and his results, subsequently, showed that he was positive.

Meanwhile, 102 additional people across Guyana were infected with the COVID-19 disease caused by the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2. These new cases were recorded from 1,482 tests. This means that 15,454 people have been infected in Guyana since March 11, last year. 

These new cases were recorded in Region One (two cases), Region Three (four cases), Region Four (72 cases), Region Five (four cases), Region Six (six cases), Region Seven (two cases), Region Nine (eight cases) and Region 10 (four cases). 

Additionally, there are 1864 active cases; 14 of these cases are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 111 people are in institutional isolation, 1,732 people are in home isolation and seven people are in institutional quarantine.
