A renowned pandit from Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), Rajin Lalaram has died after being infected with the disease, COVID-19.
The News Room has been reliably informed that the man died late Thursday night after he experienced the severe symptoms of the disease. His mother, wife and sister were also diagnosed with the disease but they have all since recovered.
Tributes for pandit Lalaram were pouring in on Friday morning. The Guyana Central Arya Samaj noted, “The umbrella of Vaidil Satya Sanaatan Dharma has truly lost a dear son, father, brother and friend.”
The Guyana Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha wrote on their Facebook page: “The Hindus of Guyana has lost a great leader and propagator of sanatan dharma, nevertheless Bhagwan Shri Krishna comforts us with the words of Gita that no one really dies, the soul just moves on to another greater adventure.”
Additionally, President of the Guyana Pandits’ Council, Rudra Sharma, extended condolences to the family of the “very brilliant and vibrant” Lalaram.
Sharma advised all people to get their COVID-19 vaccines and to continue wearing their masks, stating, “COVID is extremely dangerous.”
Additionally, Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, wrote on her Facebook page, “Heartbroken today over the COVID 19 death of Pandit Rajin Lallaram, of the education department Region 5.
“This was a committed, dedicated person with so much to offer. Our country is poorer for his passing.
“To his wife, mother, sisters and many, many friends and to our colleagues in education, my deepest condolences.”
