Mechanic beaten, robbed by bandits on BMX bicycle

A 27-year-old mechanic of Lodge, Georgetown, was on Saturday beaten and robbed of his gold chain by two bandits, who were armed with a cutlass.

The robbery occured at around 20:30 hrs on the Turkeyen Eastern Highway Access Road, East Coast Demerara.

Police reported that the mechanic was sitting on his motorcycle which was parked on the access road in the vicinity of the Movie Towne Mall when he was approached by the two suspects on a BMX bicycle.

Police said that one of the suspects beat the victim with the cutlass about his body causing him to receive injuries.

The other male suspect then snatched his gold chain a 10 pennyweight valued at $50,000 which was around his neck. They then mounted their bicycle and escaped.

The victim sustained no serious injuries but sought medical attention.

Investigation in progress.
