Guyana on Tuesday recorded another 85 new COVID-19 infections from 871 tests, taking the country’s overall number of known cases to 16,320 since the virus was first reported in March 2020.
The new cases were recorded in eight administrative regions: Region One (two cases), Region Three (19 cases), Region Four (43 cases), Region Five (six cases), Region Six (five cases), Region Seven (eight cases), Region Eight (one case) and Region Ten (one case).
Thus far, Guyana’s overall mortality rate has increased to 368; this means that 69 persons would have succumbed to the dreaded diseased for May alone, making it the deadliest month for the pandemic so far.
Previously, April held the slot with 66 deaths.
Additionally, 19 persons are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), while 97 are in institutional isolation; 1,783 persons are in home isolation and six are in institutional quarantine.
