Police have arrested four persons in connection with the discovery of several guns and matching ammunition in the wee hours of Saturday in two incidents at Main Street and Brickdam in Georgetown.
Police said just before 4:00 am, ranks were tipped off and went to Main Street, in the vicinity of Tower Suites Hotel, where they encountered a driver from Durban Street, Lodge.
The police rank reportedly told the driver he would like to carry out a search on his person, to which he agreed.
According to a statement from police headquarters, a 9mm Glock 19 Pistol with serial number # FLD 741, along with one suspected 9mm ammunition, were found in his front pants crutch.
The man was immediately arrested and escorted to the Brickdam Police Station.
Acting on further information, at about 04:30hrs, the police ranks went to an area along Brickdam, in the vicinity of St. Stanislaus College, where three males – a 23-year-old student of Norton Street, Lodge; a 27-year-old taxi driver and a 23 year-old labourer – both of Durban Street, Lodge – were observed seated in a white Toyota Axio vehicle, with license plate number PYY 5049.
Police said a search was carried out on them but nothing illegal was found. The driver then agreed to a search of the car for guns and ammunition.
During the search, one .32 Taurus Pistol, for which the serial number was filed out, with two live .32 ammunition were found under the driver’s seat.
The trio was arrested and escorted to the Brickdam Police Station where the firearm and ammunition were lodged.
Investigations are ongoing.
