Taxi driver resists robbery attempt forcing bandits to flee

A hire car driver from Bush Lot, Corentyne, is nursing injuries to his left hand after he was forced to fight off armed bandits, who invaded his home on Thursday night.

Police said the 50-year-old man was awakened at around 21:00hrs by a loud noise that emanated from his living room; upon checking, he was confronted by two masked bandits, both armed with cutlasses.

A third bandit, with a handgun, waited in the yard. They were all dressed in dark clothing.

According to the statement from Police Headquarters, one of the bandits placed a cutlass to the man’s neck and demanded that he handed over all his valuables.

The man instead held onto the cutlass and a scuffle ensued.

The two bandits subsequently abandoned their mission and made good their escape, along with their accomplice, who was standing in the yard.

The victim received a wound to his left hand and was escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he seen and examined by a doctor on duty and sent away.

Investigations are ongoing.
