A Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara businessman and his family were held at gunpoint in their house on Sunday morning by five men armed with guns and cutlasses.

Police, in a report, noted that at around 04:00hrs on Sunday, the businessman was preparing to leave home to conduct business at the Le Penitance Market.

He came downstairs to start his vehicle when he observed muddy foot prints in his yard and became suspicious.

At that point, he was approached by one of the bandits who pointed a gun at him and told him not to move or say anything.

According to the police report, the businessman then saw the other four bandits under the house: two of them tied him up, while the others went to the upper flat and also tied up his wife and two daughters.

The businessman was taken to the upper flat where the suspects demanded money and jewelry from the family, and in the process, he was beaten to the head with a gun while the wife also received injuries.

The suspects then made good their escape with several items and cash in an unknown direction.

Among the items stole are $710,000 in Guyana currency; US$500; five cellular phones, a laptop, a tablet, a DVD player; one PlayStation 3, gold and silver jewelry and 13 pieces of raw diamonds, among other items.

    Investigations are ongoing.
