Steve Ninvalle appointed Director of Sport

President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, has been appointed as the new Director of Sport in Guyana.

The News Room Sport confirmed that the six-member National Sports Commission (NSC), which was appointed by the Government of Guyana on May 20, met on Sunday (May 30) and in consultation with the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., opted to appoint the former Member of Parliament to the role.

The NSC consists of Kashif Muhammad (Chairman), Bissoondyal Singh, Cristy Campbell, Dellon Davidson, Phillip Fernandes and Cheteram Ramdial.

Muhammad told the News Room Sport on Sunday that the new NSC had their first official meeting and the first thing on the agenda was the appointment of the Director and it was unanimously decided that Ninvalle is the best choice based on his stellar contributions to sport over the years in Guyana and the Caribbean.

Ninvalle, who has been involved with sport since 1993, is a former Sport Journalist and Parliamentary Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.

In an invited comment, Ninvalle thanked the NSC and the minister for the appointment and welcomed the challenges that will arise. He further stated that it will be a team effort to further develop the sport sector in Guyana.

Among the functions of the NSC as listed in the National Sports Commission Act of 1993, is to promote sports and its organisation by all available methods, including the making of grants therefor; provide for the establishment, erection mid maintenance of sporting and other recreational facilities; and advise the Minister on development and promotion of sports generally.
