Differently-abled athlete Walter Grant-Stuart was among the category winners on Sunday (May 30) when the Guyana Cycling Federation brought the curtains down on its 2021 National Cycling Championship on the East Coast of Demerara.
Suzanne Hamilton, Aaron Newton and Alex Leung won the other categories. The race was contested around the Mahaica/Unity circuit, an approximate distance of 11.3km.
Grant-Stuart, who lost his right arm in a motorcycle accident several years ago, won the Masters eight-lap event in a time of two hours, 33 minutes, 24 seconds. He was followed by Junior Niles and Jaikarran Sukhai in second and third respectively.
Notably, Grant-Stuart also placed fifth in the Senior Road Race held last weekend (May 23).
Hamilton was the top rider in the Female three-lap event, winning ahead of fellow Lindener Clivecia Spencer and Selena Stephens of Bartica.
The Junior Road Race was won by Newton, with Mario Washington placing second and Andrew Forrester third. In the Juveniles race, Leung won ahead of Amani King and Marc Lewis.
